Brandon Sanderson is one of my favorite new writers of the sci-fi/fantasy genre. (I believe a few other regulars to this site probably agree with me.)

His debut novel was Elantris, which was one of the best stand-alone fantasy novels I have read in quite some time. If you haven’t read it yet, Monkeypup did a review of it here. Monkeypup also had the good fortune of interviewing Mr. Sanderson. You can read that interview here.

Well, Mr. Sanderson’s latest novel, Mistborn: The Final Empire, is due out the end of July. You can pre-order it from Amazon here! (Just click on the link now, it’ll save you time later when you realize that you WILL want this book!)

Being the class act Mr. Sanderson is, he has posted the Prologue and the first 3 chapters online to give us all a taste of his new venture (it is going to be a trilogy).

Good news: An interesting world, an even more interesting plot, and quite possibly a main character that might become one of my all-time favorites. The writing is crisp and fantastic! Enough detail to paint a great picture in the mind’s eye, without bogging the reader down with too much detail.

Bad News: When I finished chapter three, I was wishing for chapter four. As great as having a sneak peak, it just makes me wish I had the entire book right now.
