Though it took me a while, trailers like this one and reviews like this one have made me a convert. I am now officially excited about the new Superman movie.
It’s a position I hate to be in, because the first two Superman movies are among my favorite movies of all time. Sure, they play pretty dated now, but when I was a kid….wow. The advertising slogan was “You will believe a man can fly” and I sure as hell did. Despite some things I try to forget (like Superman’s power to kiss a woman and make her forget the last three weeks), the movies were everything you’d want a Superman movie to be. Well, in 1978, anyway.
It makes sense to start over again. There have been almost 30 years of advancements in the field of special effects and visual imagery. Now, we can see Superman as he should be seen. But if all that mattered was special effects, Attack of the Clones would have been watchable. Unfortunately for Lucas, that wasn’t the case.
But all signs point to this movie being more than just eye candy. And after resisting for the longest time, I’m as excited as everyone else is.
But if you disappoint me again, Hollywood, I’m pissing on your sign. You’ve been warned.
